Point , Expand, Comment is a useful way to think about structuring your paragraphs.

 

Point

The point states the main idea that you would like to explain.

Expand

Explain how and why the point is relevant. By:

Explanation or Definition

– clarifies difficult or unclear terms

Evidence

– a citation that supports or develops the main idea

Comment

The comment works to “prove” your argument by making the connection between your point and the evidence. The comment could also contain a sentence that leads to the next paragraph.
